Teachpoint is designed for permanent learning; that is, creating and maintaining knowledge in students' long-term memory. Research shows that this requires periodically reapplying, or refreshing, knowledge.
Accordingly, Teachpoint keeps database records of student interactions.
From this information, it derives a review schedule for each student.
The list consists of references to exercises,
together with date/times.
Exercises are repeated at intervals optimized
for long-term retention.
When in memory refresh mode, a student is given a sequence of exercises based on the review schedule. After each exercise, the student has the option of reviewing the content and repeating the exercise. The default navigation interface provides links on the course and student home pages for doing memory refresh.
Students are encouraged to spend time in memory refresh mode
each time they return to a course.
Teachpoint can optionally send periodic emails to students,
reminding them that memory refresh is due and
containing the appropriate URL.
