Course analytic tools
Teachpoint supplies several tools for analyzing
student interactions with your course.
These tools let you discover:
- Where students are having problems.
- What types of problems they're having.
- Which groups of students are having problems.
Thus you can iteratively improve your course,
increasing its effectiveness and increasing the
diversity of students for which it is effective.

Traffic maps
Traffic maps show the flow of students through your course.
A traffic map is a graph with
time on the horizontal axis
and course topics on the vertical axis.
You can control several aspects of the graph:
-
You can limit the student selection by
any combination of user attributes;
for example, you can choose to view data only for female college graduates.
-
You can break down the results by student attributes;
for example, you can compare male/female results.
In this case each bar is divided into color-coded parts.
Or you can select Outcome;
the will break down the totals according to the "outcome" of the interaction:
the user clicked OK, or went away, or asked a question, etc.
-
You can restrict the traffic map to any part of your course outline
(i.e., a topic and its subtopics).
Traffic maps let you identify parts of your course
that are ineffective for particular types of users.
You can use this information to improve your course
by changing or adding content.
To use traffic maps, go to
Course Control Page > Course Outline > Traffic Map
This will show a traffic map for your course,
and will open a small "Traffic Map Control Panel" window.
The Control Panel lets you change the parameters of the traffic map
as listed above.
